Ford has unveiled the 2025 Mustang GTD, a groundbreaking achievement in Mustang engineering. With an impressive 815 horsepower, 664 lb-ft of torque, and a top speed of 202 mph, this new model sets the standard as the fastest and most powerful street-legal Mustang in history.
Record-Setting Performance and Engineering
The Mustang GTD’s performance capabilities go far beyond raw power. Its advanced features, including active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a sophisticated inboard-rear suspension with semi-active dampers, are designed to push the limits. Ford has confirmed that the GTD is on track to complete the Nürburgring in under seven minutes, a milestone for this iconic model.
Chief Program Engineer Greg Goodall emphasized the focus on world-class performance: “We’ve been laser-focused since day 1 to make Mustang GTD the first-ever supercar with world-class performance and the soul of a Mustang.” According to Goodall, the car’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 delivers more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, cementing its place among elite performance cars.
Innovative V8 Engine Design
The heart of the Mustang GTD is its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, an evolution from previous Mustang engines. It features Mustang’s first-ever dry-sump oil system, ensuring reliable lubrication even during intense cornering. This new oil system also allows the engine to reach a maximum speed of 7,650 rpm—100 rpm more than its predecessor. Other refinements, such as a revised intake and exhaust system, a standard titanium exhaust, and a smaller supercharger pulley, contribute to the impressive engine output.
Advanced Aerodynamics for Maximum Performance
Achieving a top speed of 202 mph requires more than just horsepower. The Mustang GTD includes a Drag Reduction System (DRS), which adjusts the angle of the rear wing and activates front flaps to optimize airflow. This system enables the GTD to balance speed and downforce depending on driving conditions, ensuring peak performance at all times.
Goodall noted the importance of the engineering team and the technology behind the car: “We’ve combined the work of talented engineers and designers, as well as an extremely capable driver, with Mustang GTD technology, power, and aerodynamics. We can’t wait to deliver on our sub-7-minute promise to GTD customers.”
The 2025 Mustang GTD sets a new bar for high-performance cars, blending extreme power, precision engineering, and cutting-edge aerodynamics to create an unparalleled driving experience.
